Sabbatical Grant Pilot - Evaluation Results
Nonprofit organizations are increasingly facing capacity and sustainability challenges due to widespread leadership and staff turnover, which is, in part, driven by burnout. In both the forprofit and nonprofit sectors, sabbaticals (extended periods of leave provided to employees for rest, rejuvenation, and personal development) have been increasingly recognized as a best practice that promotes individual, organizational, and sector-wide flourishing. To pilot these learnings, R&R conducted a first-of-its-kind sabbatical grant program & evaluation (by Tobin Belzer PhD) in the Jewish communal sector.
The essential components of this grant pilot, provided to a total of (5) leaders of Jewish organizations, included:
$50,000 for the awardees to rest, travel, reflect or renew in whatever manner they propose, for a minimum of three (3) consecutive months while maintaining their current salary/benefits
$10,000 to support interim leaders and staff
