Evaluation on 2nd Round of R&R’s Sabbatical Granting
Nonprofit organizations are increasingly facing capacity and sustainability challenges due to widespread leadership and staff turnover, which is, in part, driven by burnout. In both the for profit and nonprofit sectors, sabbaticals (extended periods of leave provided to employees for rest, rejuvenation, and personal development) have been increasingly recognized as a best practice that promotes individual, organizational, and sector-wide flourishing.
These learnings led R&R to launch sabbatical granting for leaders within the Jewish nonprofit sector. The first round of granting launched in 2021.
To date, 10 nonprofit leaders have received sabbatical grants from R&R to disconnect from their professional work and step away from the organization/role for a period of three (3) months. Dr. Tobin Belzer, PhD, conducted the evaluation for both sabbatical granting rounds to date..
The essential components of the 2nd round of granting:
$30,000 for the awardees to rest, travel, reflect or renew in whatever manner they propose, for a minimum of three (3) consecutive months while maintaining their current salary/benefits
Access to executive coaching for preparation, leave, re-entry for both grantees & deputies; community of practice with grantee peers; resource bank of sector best practices; and consultation with the R&R team as needed to ensure success of the sabbatical
